Learning Outcomes

The goal of agile software development is to make the software development process more flexible and streamlined by, for example, giving priority to the team members' approach to software development and their interaction over processes and tools. This project teaches skills that are necessary and helpful for filling the role of a Scrum Master. In particular: - Students learn how to coach distributed agile software development teams

Content

This course teaches students how to coach agile software development teams. The course combines theory (short lectures and class discussion) with practice (students will play the Scrum master role in an AMOS project). Some topics covered are: - The agile mindset - Running retrospectives - How to run a workshop - Listening, giving feedback - Leading change - Conflict resolution To participate, you must have successfully completed a prior AMOS project, either as a product owner or software developer. Class is run as two 90min. blocks, one for short lectures and class discussions, one for the exercise, where the student is playing a Scrum master role. Sign-up and further course information are available through a Google spreadsheet at https://coach.uni1.de -

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

Students play the Scrum master role. A Scrum master helps a Scrum team improve its processes and removes impediments. There are complementary modules for the product owner and software developer role. You must have been a product owner or software developer previously to be allowed to play the Scrum master role. Students will be organized into teams of 7-9 people, combining one Scrum master with two product owners with six software developers. An industry partner will provide requirements to be worked out in detail by the product owners and to be realized by the software developers. The available projects will be presented in the run-up to the course. Class consists of a 90 min. lecture followed by a 90 min. team meeting. Rooms and times for team meetings
