Participants are expected to have some basic understanding of topology. A completed course "Functional Analysis I" would be good, but is not mandatory. If preferred the course can also be given in German.
Convex analysis is a powerful tool with applications in optimisation, calculus of variations, PDE's, mechanics, geometry, functional analysis and many other fields. As such one usually learns some basic convex arguments in other courses; this course is meant as more in-depth exposition. A strong focus will be put on convex functionals and (perhaps surprising) connections with topology. Such connections are very important for applications to optimisation and calculus of variations.
