Current global policy dynamics are not only related to global trade or foreign policy, but science and scientific knowledge production are also revealing a variety of new trends that challenge established perspectives on global cooperation, the internationalisation of science and power relations in a global science system. In this seminar, we will first examine the special features of scientific knowledge production in a global context. We will then discuss current perspectives and recent empirical findings in research on the relationship between science and politics (including current postcolonial approaches, constructivist perspectives, and interdisciplinary perspectives from IR). Finally, we will take a look at recent developments and discuss future research potentials.
