The present class will review basic skills in scholarly research in mediated communication and furthermore support MA candidates who are working on the MA thesis (through feedback sessions, hands-on activities, peer review, etc.)

  1. Identifying relevant research topics and questions
  2. Citing sources, managing information
  3. Structuring and Formatting scholarly writing
  4. Scholarly writing techniques
  5. Wording hypotheses
  6. Working with and evaluating theory
  7. Reading, interpreting and evaluating evidence
  8. Time management, setting goals
  9. Structures in the scientific community, learning from feedback
  10. Knowledge transfer, Science communication
  11. Publication formats
  12. Relevant scholarly outlets
  13. Academic careers
  14. Ethical Issues / Plagiarism

Expectations for successful completion:

Ongoing active participation and discussion, continuous reading and commenting of seminar materials to prepare session discussions and group work, information search and presentation

Note that the FKR (Fakultätsrat) of Fak. I requires that participants do not miss more than 2 sessions of a seminar for successful completion.

Requirements:

For colloquium: substantive presentation of thesis project

For Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten (MA-MED 2): six graded activities, 4 non-graded activities (with a portfolio approach)
