In magical thinking the principle of causality is already present, as the most extravagant connections are established according to similarity and convenience. In monotheistic religions cause and effect relationships have to be understood as an expression of the same God, and thus causality takes on a more stable and universalistic outline. In the last centuries one can see the progressive fragmentation of the spheres of knowledge, with the various sciences taking the place of religion and philosophy, which implies even more determined ways (paradigms) of understanding change.

The seminar aims to present this “development” in correlation to different social structures and their characteristic forms of production and dissemination of knowledge. It is understood as a tutorial that introduces basic questions of the Text und Wissen module.
