Zusatzinformationen COURSE LANGUAGE
This course will primarily be held in English, however, with a bilingual and integrative approach. In other words, your instructor may switch to German as needed for clarification; you may ask and comment in German as you wish; student tasks (presentations, exams, quizzes etc.) can be completed in German upon request. The general credo will be that English is the new ‘lingua franca’ while bearing in mind that only a minority of the world’s population are native speakers of English!
COURSE FORMAT

COURSE PURPOSE
The course will introduce students to mediated communication-science, including basic terms and methods. It will discuss foundations of mediated communication and its impact on society and individuals. This discussion will include the role of media of various forms (TV, print media, video games, the Internet) in influencing various domains such as violence, health, and politics.
Readings and lectures will consider work on the communication process and on the impact of mediated messages on people’s knowledge, emotions, attitudes, and behaviors.
COURSE TASKS
Exam(s), may further include quizzes, course participation/attendance points, online assignments.
