SE Reality+: What virtual reality teaches us about life, universe, and everything

Mi. 16-18 Uhr

Präsenz, Anmeldung über ISIS

In this seminar we will be reading Reality+, the latest book by philosopher Dave Chalmers. In his book, Chalmers examines questions such as "Can we know, whether we live in a virtual reality?", "Are virtual realities illusions?", and "Can virtual lives be meaningful?". Similar questions about the nature of reality, the possibility of knowledge and value are common in philosophy, but according to Chalmers, the invention of virtual reality invites us to re-evaluate some well-respected intuitive answers. According to Chalmers, we cannot know if we live in a virtual world. However, virtual worlds are not illusions - they are real. And life in such virtual worlds can be genuinely meaningful. We will discuss Chalmers' arguments and possible objections in our weekly meetings.
