Learning Outcomes

Students experience how to make appropriate use of scientific methods to tackle emerging challenges in production and operations management. They learn how to organize in teams and are able to apply a state of the art software for data analysis and optimization to provide decision support for complex problems. By writing a research paper and presenting their work, they gain insights into academic work and improve their skills of communicating and discussing research findings.

Content

Working in small research teams, students develop solutions for complex challenges of production and operations management. The solutions are implemented using state-of-the-art software for optimization and data analysis. The teams write a seminar paper and present their work within a scientific colloquium. The necessary skills in scientific writing and the appropriate use of related software are trained in a primer consisting of lecture and exercise elements. Special advice and guidance is provided to support modelling and writing activities.
