Lernergebnisse

The course analyzes the influence of Open Source and Peer Production from an economic, political and societal point of view. In particular, it will deal with the potential conflict between Open Innovation and traditional formal protective rights, the motivation and organization of Open Source communities, and the economic impact of Open Source. The participants will learn about the implications of using and contributing to Open Source projects in enterprises. The course will enable them to assess and evaluate the use of Open Source products, and develop strategies for cooperation and collaboration with Open Source communities.

Software production in Open Source communities 6. Open Source licenses, derived works and software stacks 7. Business models around Open Source 8. Cooperative strategies: Open Source Foundations 9. Case studies: Linux Foundation, Qt Project 10. Working the system: defensive strategies of Open Source communities 11. Open Source and Open Standards 12. The wider scope of „Open Everything“ and freedom (Creative Commons, Open Data/Hardware/Innovation/Government/...)

Beschreibung der Lehr- und Lernformen

The form of teaching depends on the educational goals of the individual sessions. There is an interactive alternation between presentation and explanations of the lecturer and talks prepared and elaborated by the students. The students prepare a written assignment in individual or group work, and present their work in the lecture.

The portfolio examination consists of the following elements, adding up to a maximum of 100 credits. The grading follows the joint conversion key of the School of Economics and Management (decision of the school's council dated May 28, 2014 - FKR VII-4/8-28.05.2014).
