Lernergebnisse

Students are familiar with key theories, methods, and tools of scientific work and project management in the field of urban and regional planning and can utilize the knowledge gained in the conception, planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects of different scales, durations, and complexities in a structured and self-reliant manner. In addition, as a result of an experimental exploration of contemporary theories and approaches to spatial research, students have learned to develop independent research designs, implement them empirically at different scales and make results visible and impactful.

Lehrinhalte

The module "Spatial Research in Theory and Practice" focuses on the theoretical and practical learning of scientific work with a focus on spatial research and combines methodology with critical urban and regional research at different spatial scales. First element is the integrated course "Research-oriented project work and management" which introduces the basic skills and methods that are relevant for working in and managing scientific projects. In addition to learning about research-related approaches, theories, and methods, the course also covers relevant techniques and tools that will train students to conduct their own future research projects and achieve higher quality results. In the subsequent seminar "Spatial research: topics, concepts, and practical application" changing topics, theories, or concepts of critical urban research will be used to develop own empirical explorations. The aim is to apply the previously acquired theoretical and methodological knowledge to case-specific applications.

Beschreibung der Lehr- und Lernformen

The course content "research oriented project work and management" is taught in a mixture of lectures, seminars and practical exercises in the form of an integrated course. The course content of the seminar "spatial research: topics, concepts and practical applications" results of thematic inputs, group discussions on the basis of students' contributions, practical exercises, and supervised guidance of the explorative implementation of the student's assignments. Language: English.

Successful completion of at least one study project in master course. Further project experience from the Bachelor's programme is desirable
