Lernergebnisse

Students are able to refer to theories and models of urban politics and to refer to approaches and methods of urban policy analysis in dealing critically with current issues of planning theory and practice. They are able to navigate the interdisciplinary field of scholarly contributions to understanding the political nature of planning processes against the background of the politics and political economy of urban development. They are able to apply a critical choice of theoretical references and analytical approaches in their own engagement with planning practice.

Lehrinhalte

The module Urban Politics and Policy introduces students to the understanding of urban politics and policy by dealing with the following topics and contributions: - key concepts for understanding planning as a political process; - main theories, analytical approaches and models of urban politics; - main theories, analytical approaches and methods of policy analysis and their application to urban studies and planning studies; - current developments in critical theory and research on urban politics and policy.

Beschreibung der Lehr- und Lernformen

The module Urban Politics and Policy: - introduces to key concepts and to the main theories, analytical approaches and methods in the field of urban politics and urban policy analysis; - engages in applying these contents to topics of current relevance in the critical analysis of urban politics and policy. Student are invited to contribute to the choice of topics and cases for conducting in-depth explorations of the critical potential of the theories, analytical approaches and methods learnt. Overall, the teaching forms include: - thematic inputs, - colloquia and forums devoted to discussing inputs by the students, - thematic seminars devoted to student presentations and discussions on selected issues or cases related to the seminar topic.
