Lernergebnisse

After completing this module, students will be able to systematically present selected problems of global sociology. They will be able to reflect challenges to society - such social inequality, economic issues or ecological sustainability - from the perspective of different cultures or world regions. The will be able to delink and decentre their thinking and analyse translocal and polycontextural phenomena on the basis of existing literature and to describe them with theoretical terms. They also have the ability to read texts critically and to classify arguments, to apply them systematically to empirical current issues and to present them in a way that is understandable to others. The module mainly teaches professional competence 30%, methodological competence 10%, System competence 30%, Social competence 30%

Lehrinhalte

In this module, other topics currently under discussion in the field of research are discussed. Current sociological research questions and an in-depth treatment of the classics are possible topics. The module can be taken up to 10 times. Examples for possible seminars: - Global Value Chains and Global Inequality - Global Inequality

Beschreibung der Lehr- und Lernformen

The module is only offered, if teaching capacities are available. The course titles assigned to the module may vary and will be announced at the beginning of the semester. The seminar combines several teaching forms, dependent on topic. There might either be an input talk be the lecturer or a guest speaker, and/or the students have read a text in advance. The main part of the seminar consists of discussions between students amongst themselves and with the lecturer, with the emphasis on working with and on the seminar texts or the input lecture. The students will present results of their reflections in order to consolidate their ability to present and discuss as well as to deepen a sub-topic of the seminar.

Voraussetzungen für die Teilnahme / Prüfung

Wünschenswerte Voraussetzungen für die Teilnahme an den Lehrveranstaltungen:

• Participation in first session of the course. • Registration for the courses of the module. • Knowledge of English language in order to read texts, understand lectures, participate in discussions and present results (B2 of oral and written language). The person responsible for the module checks the conditions of participation.
