Lernergebnisse

Students will acquire basic knowledge and will be able to understand comprehensive problems and relationships in architecture theory. The students will master the acquisition of scientific working methods. The module deepens individual, specific subject areas, enabling students to apply their theoretical knowledge independently to other subject areas. The module imparts knowledge and techniques for independent scientific work. The contents of the module will be dealt with under gender considerations. By means of exemplary representations of individual positions, the students will gain advanced knowledge in architecture theory. Skills achieved include the ability to extrapolate knowledge to other questions and problems. Basic knowledge and skills will be imparted, upon which the students can build further and deepen their knowledge. Skills gained also include academic writing, the independent preparation of an academic paper, and the defence of theses in public debates and discussions. This knowledge enables the students to deepen their critical reflection on architecture. The acquired competence will enable critical questioning, scientific work, and the oral presentation of one's own findings. Social responsibility is just as much a part of the acquired competences as is empathy in various problem areas. Professional skills 40%, methodological skills 40%, social skills 20%

Lehrinhalte

The module Architecture Theory/Philosophy is dedicated to the epistemological investigation of the cultural significance of architecture. It focuses on the critical reflection on the cultural function and effect of architecture in constantly changing cultural force field. The working method of the module is critical-analytical in nature, insofar as it is based on an epistemological interest. The starting point for the critical reflection of its cultural function is the material-built reality of architecture. For reading and discussion, classical source texts from architecture and cultural theory, as well as from philosophy and aesthetics are used. The readings and in-depth discussions of the literature are intended to provide insight into knowledge about architecture that is indispensable for the critical reflection of architecture as a central, cultural practice with which human beings create their appropriate environment.
