Lehrinhalte

The module Critical Urban Policy Studies: Theoretical Issues and Empirical Explorations deals with theories, approaches and methods of critical urban studies. It focusses in particular on developing critical analyses of contemporary trends and emerging issues in urban policy and planning. The main course of the module is conceived as a research seminar and is aimed at the conduct of in-depth analysis of a specific chosen topic. Each term, the seminar focuses on selected issues of contemporary relevance for urban policy and planning and puts these at the centre of in-depth theoretical and empirical analysis. The research seminar in particular is devoted to developing an understanding of and to engage in the design and conduct of research on the chosen topic, to be performed in groups. The topic chosen for each teaching term is specified in an additional seminar title and is announced before the beginning of the course. As such, the module appeals in particular to students who want to develop an expertise in research and/or intend to engage in a long term research activity, e.g. in preparation of a master thesis or of an application for a doctorate.
