This course explores how individuals reduce the mental processing demands of a task through deliberate physical actions. Students will learn how cognitive offloading can enhance performance, particularly in cognitively demanding tasks, by strategically offloading memory and processing requirements to external tools. The course also examines the negative effects, where reliance on external aids can lead to poorer memory retention. Additionally, the course covers the latest research insights, such as how the perceived reliability of tools influences offloading behaviors and how problem solvers adjust their offloading strategies based on their performance goals.
