Learning Outcomes

After successfully passing the module, the students have basic knowledge in: - Neurophysiology, Electrophysiology, Neuroanatomy, - Methods for measuring human skin conductance, muscle activity, cardiovascular activity and brain activity, - Planning of psychophysiological experiments, - Carrying out psychophysiological experiments (electrode and amplifier systems, recording software, artifact control), - Evaluation of biosignals in the time and frequency domain. Skills: - Construction, planning and implementation of psychophysiological experiments, - Analysis of biosignals. Skills: - Basic understanding of neural information processing, - understanding of advantages and disadvantages of different psychophysiological derivatives, - Basic ability to recognize relationships between physiology and behavior.

Content

Neurophysiology, electrophysiology, neuroanatomy, functional anatomy related to specific sensory and motor systems, assignment of psychophysiological correlates to perception and behavior. Planning of psychophysiological experiments: Special features of experimental protocols for psychophysiological investigations, aspects of measurement methods, selection of subjects. Conducting psychophysiological experiments: electrode and amplifier systems, attaching electrodes, individual measurement approaches, amplifier settings, recording software, artifact control online, specific phenomena. Evaluation of psychophysiological data: analyzes in the time and frequency domain.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

In the project study, the knowledge and skills required for scientific work are to be imparted by working on a specific question. Under supervision, these are acquired by the students through independent work. Psychophysiological measurements will be prepared, carried out and the data collected will be analyzed. Methods covered include Electrodermal Activity (EDA), Electromyography (EMG), Electrocardiography (ECG) and Electroencephalogram (EEG). The tasks include the efficient familiarization with a problem, the planning and implementation of a solution as well as the evaluation and the creation of a report. Learning takes place in alternation between individual or small group work and joint work discussions.

Grading scale

This exam uses its own grading scale (see test description).

Test description (Module completion)

The grade consists of three parts: 1. Laboratory work (10%). The laboratory work includes: Participation in and implementation of experiments (EPA, EMG, EKG, EEG); Preparation and follow-up of the experiments; Analysis of the collected data 2. Practical-oral examination (60%) 3. Written Elaboration (30%) A total of up to 100 portfolio points can be achieved in the module. The conversion into grades is based on the following table: min. percent min. points grade 95.0% 95 1.0 90.0% 90 1.3 85.0% 85 1.7 80.0% 80 2.0 75.0% 75 2.3 70.0% 70 2.7 65.0% 65 3.0 60.0% 60 3.3 55.0% 55 3.7 50.0% 50 4.0 0.0% 0 5.0
