Lernergebnisse

The goal of the course is to enable participants to acquire and process digital images in technical applications in a context-aware manner. So not only the basics of digital image processing are introduced, but also the acquisition of images in computing environments and the extraction of semantic contents from the images are treated. Therefore, the goal of the coarse is rather the exemplary coverage of an interdisciplinary breadth than an in-depth treatment of a specific domain.

Lehrinhalte

Fundamentals like sensor calibration, feature detection (e.g. edge extraction), matching and classification will be treated. Integrated practical exercises will be concerned with operating a camera from a single-board computer and using a smartphone camera in a computer vision setting. Furthermore, exemplary machine learning approaches will be used for “understanding” the images acquired previously. Software to be developed will make use of the OpenCV C/C++/ Python library. For participants basic programming skills as well as basic mathematical knowledge in the area of linear algebra and analysis are helpful. However, they should also be ready to work in a maker environment.

The participants will acquire conceptual and theoretical competence through hands-on experiments using open and off-the-shelf systems consisting of camera, computer and software.
