Learning Outcomes

Students possess knowledge of fundamental principles and approaches of enterprise system design and engineering. After completing the course, students are confident in recognizing and evaluating relevant properties and trade-offs in modern, distributed software systems.

Content

The course introduces principles (e.g., decentralization) and architectural styles for modern, service-oriented system design. Non-functional qualities (e.g. performance, scalability) and their inherent design trade-offs are discussed. Finally, assessment methods (i.e., benchmarking) and systems to reason about architectural decisions and trade-offs are taught. Throughout the semester, attendees learn about various Cloud services and systems (e.g., NoSQL data stores), and gain hands-on experience in respective state-of-the-art technology.
