Learning Outcomes
This lecture introduces concepts for considering and reducing the environmental impacts of products already in the design stage. First, an overview on legislative requirements and other drivers for ecodesign is given. Then design approaches like Design for Repair, Design for Environment, etc. are presented along with a broad set of tools promoting the application of ecodesign concepts. Finally, the implementation of ecodesign in management and decision making processes is illustrated based on examples of different companies. The module contains a seminar in which the participants shall analyze and improve the environmental performance of a product by using an ecodesign software. The lecture comprises: 40% Knowledge and Understanding, 20% Development and Design, 20% review and Assessment, 20% practical application
