After the successful completion of the module the students:
Understand the mechanisms underlying phytoplankton ecology in surface waters, including transport growth and death, and toxin production; and can represent them quantitatively using mathematical modeling.
- Understand basic eutrophication processes
- Understand the modeling process, including selecting the optimal model and complexity, calibrating to field observations, applying and documenting/presenting the model
- Can set up and solve differential mass balance equations using various techniques
- Master basic principles of eutrophication modeling in lakes, rivers and estuaries
- Have experience in setting up and applying off-the-shelf water quality modeling programs
The module´ s qualification profile is:
40% knowledge and understanding,
20% development and design,
20% research and evaluation,
20% application in practice
