Learning Outcomes

• Gaining competences in the use of frameworks used in innovation management practice • Being able to identify which frameworks are relevant and useful for specific situations • Being able to identify and evaluate the context in which these tools are applied • Grasping the theoretical underpinnings of each tool through the discussion of scientific papers

Content

The seminar aims at introducing students to relevant tools used in innovation management practice. Students are introduced to said tools through a learning-by-doing approach following a teaching concept consisting of a combination of lectures, case studies and hands-on exercises with the tools presented. Students will have to perform thorough analysis of the factors influencing the decision to apply the specific tools and to take them into account not only in the selection, but throughout the implementation. For this, students are provided with the scientific literature relevant to each tool. This provides them with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the theoretical fundaments on which the presented tools are built. At the end, students will have the ability to apply the presented tools, to identify the appropriateness of each tool for the specific situation at hand, and to provide a reasoning for the application of each tool grounded on theoretical and empirical insights.
