Learning Outcomes

The students gain a specialised knowledge of the complex and variety of ‚psychological zones’. It enables the students to describe the physical and psychological needs for a variety of humans in different constitutions and circumstances, to define the psychological effects of our physical environment and to architecturally react to it. The participants also learn to assess the implications of the topics dealt with under the special requirements of sustainability and gender aspects.

Content

Architecture plays an important and central role in the range of issues of healthcare and well-being. Specifically the psychological effects of our physical environment are key issues for both a surrounding public realm and the vulnerable individual. The complex and variety of ‚psychological zones’ involved in an urban environment, ranging in many steps from the private to the public, are main topics for this module considering - Impact of space on the physical and psychological constitution of people in urban scale and in detail - Transitions and thresholds - Atmosphere - Perception focusing on all senses
