Learning Outcomes

The goal of the project assignment is to apply the knowledge gained in the basic and advanced civil systems engineering courses to an industrial modeling challenge with a focus on data modeling. To this end, students can work on different data modeling assignments of our industrial partners or from our research projects. Students will also be able to bring their own practical modeling challenges. In the first part of the module students will develop the ability to design a research plan for their modeling challenge. After completing the module, students will then be able to conduct the developed research plan to conceptual model and implement a concept in some type of modeling software. Student will also understand how to discuss their model with industry partner and how to influence engineering decisions. Students will also learn how to critically reflect upon the built process models with respect to their potential to improve possibilities for sustainable engineering.

Content

- Conceptual design for a data driven model to support a civil engineering design task - Implementation of the conceptual design - Model supported decision support
