Learning Outcomes

The students will learn about the potential of ICE (Integrated Collaborative Engineering) to support integrated systems engineering. To this end, students will be confronted with a design challenge for a complex civil engineered product that they have to solve through intensive collaborative group work. In this way, this hands-on project based module will provide students with the possibility to experience collaborative engineering design in a simulated practical environment. Students will understand the real difficulties in model integration and learn techniques to overcome these problems through collaboration and concurrent work. An important focus of the course is to teach students how to visualize engineering ideas in detail within media rich interdisciplinary work spaces (the class will be taught within the civil system group's ICE room).

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

- Read and comment on selected texts to acquire the fundamental knowledge in topics related to ICE - Reflection and discussion of the techniques based on texts, practice and application examples during lectures - Project work: application of the concepts learned in classes in a project where the students need to design a system
