Learning Outcomes

The students have the ability - to independently design a project for a specific design task - to apply learned analysis and design methods independently for the analysis, classification and (further) development of their own designs in different planning scales and to evaluate the results. - to apply independently the design, communication andpresentation methods appropriate for the project and herewith develop a coherent overall concept. - to identify and integrate design aspects with regard to sustainability and gender aspects. - to use methods of presentation, moderation, mediation and foreign languages for the representation and mediation, and to assume leadershiptasks in the management of planning and realization processes in the teamwork. The ability to deal with the subject areas of the module under gender aspects is acquired.

Content

The focus is on design. Depending on the chair responsible for the studio, the topic of the draft is redefined every semester. In addition to basic research, the development of a conceptual strategy and the design, the focus of the project will be the development of design techniques, work concepts and organizational models. The design work can be carried out both on the urban as well as on the architectural scale. In addition, an Integrated course (IC) examines and deepens a specific aspect of the design defined by the chair. This may be a theoretical, technical, historical, typological, artistic or other deepening. It must be offered in cooperation with another specialist area. Justified exceptions are possible.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

The design studio is the center of the learning and teaching of the individual and the group. It is the workplace and the place where the contents, objects andbasic knowledge of the design theme are initally taught through lectures, workshops, seminars, improptu design workshops and excursions. The student or the self-organized group develops their own design independently. The progress of the project is accompanied by project-critiques. The working method is defined step by step from the concept and the design to the final presentation in front of a jury. Depending on the topic and the aim, students apply different methods of working, such as research, compilation of data, analysis or design alternatives. Hereby media such as sketches, drawings, models, diagrams, mappings, plans, texts, image presentations or similar are used.
