Learning Outcomes

General aim of this course is to familiarize students with theoretical and practical aspects of artistic strategies. The students will focus on the development of artistic ideas by using new media and transdisciplinary approaches. Furthermore those ideas will be transcripted into a practical or conceptual body of work. Complex artistic abilities regarding scientific thinking and direct acting will be transmitted. The analysis, decoding, interpretation and construction of spatial structures and imagery is a main concern of this module. The process of this course will take part in regards to a specific thematic focal point. The course is principally designed to impart: technical skill: 40%, method skill: 30%; system skill: 20%, social skill: 10%.

Content

-Further development and deepening of the own artistic abilities and artistic-scientific understanding. -Exploration of theoretical correlation between art and space, art and architecture and art and society. -A thematic focus will be given that relates to general spatial conditions like: inside, outside, in between and surface. All stages of artistic work will be carried out in groups. This includes the finding of ideas, critical analysis of the first drafts, the contextualisation of theoretical and practical aspects as well as the practical realisation of the art work. The students will write statements and find titles for their projects in order to help understanding the scientific context of the theme. The choice of the artistic media that will be explored is dependent on the thematic focal point. A main theme will be chosen each semester.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

Introduction and supervision of student projects in groups and individually. Seminar-based education including lectures, guest-lectures, visiting of exhibitions, field trips, presentations, group critiques and open discussions.
