Learning Outcomes

This module is part of the DAAD sponsored IP programme: Future Cities - Demographic Change and Local Differentiation The impact of architecture as physical artefact on the urban development. The IP will take place once a year starting in 2013 ending in 2015. Students from different Universities will be asked to work in co-operation with local players and various interest groups. By doing so they will develop analytical skills and professional methods which they can apply directly in their later academic or professional career. A wide range of specialist interviews, surveys, mappings, drawings and documentaries will be taught and worked out. The methods and tools taught depend on the specific topic of the IP and will be modified according to the city in which the IP will take place. For all cities a public presentation in front of the community is part of the programme. The students will acquire basic communication, presentation and moderation skills. Das Modul vermittelt: Fachkompetenz 50% Methodenkompetenz 25% Systemkompetenz 0% Sozialkompetenz 25%.

Content

The programme will investigate the potential of architectural interventions as catalyst for future urban transformation and renewal - with a focus on the specific needs of cities without growth in Europe. By doing so, we will investigate the impact and influence of architecture, as physical artefacts, on the urban structure. Using the method „research by design“ we will develop and test possible instruments in varying scales. The students will be required to prepare a project presentation within the timeframe of the two working weeks - further project developments and assessments are part of the adip design studio.

Miscellaneous

The adip Intensive Programme - Future Cities - Demographic Change and Local Differentiation - is a DAAD sponsored exchange programme with the aim to enhance the mobility of students and academics alike. Three or four universities from different regions of Europe are co-operating to set up and develop this Erasmus Intensive Programme, bringing together academics, scholars, students and locals. Organised in the form of annual international intensive workshops, so called „working weeks“, the programme aims to enhance the exchange between 1- students and academics, to learn more about the differing approaches in different countries and professions and 2- academics and local players, to test the project findings in practice. Hence, students will work in mixed interdisciplinary teams, collaborate with local players and discuss their findings with local communities. IMPORTANT NOTE: Once students enrolled in this module attendance is mandatory! Travel expenses and a daily allowance is covered by the DAAD. Gehört zur Fächergruppe WP laut StO.
