Learning Outcomes

Participants of the seminar acquire an understanding of the basics of the topic with a focus on social and societal aspects of computer science and information technology. This includes economic, political and cultural dimensions as well as concepts of IT safety, IT security and privacy and the role of open source in order to be able to develop new ideas in these fields.

- History of Computer Science - Aspects of the Information Society - Impact of Computer Science and Information Technology on various aspects of society - Safety, security and privacy aspects of IT Systems (in particular: Digital Media, eLearning, eGovernment, eHealth, eVoting, eCommerce etc.) such as: Internet security, security models, access control, safety in mobile and wireless communication - Open Source as a societal phenomenon - AI and the impacts on society

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

The module consists of a seminar. Topics are assigned to the students. These are to be prepared, presented, discussed, and documented. A scientific paper has to be submitted at the end of the seminar which deals with a topic from within the scope of the seminar. Assignments have to be written to the weekly topics.
