Learning Outcomes

Students acquire knowledge of fundamental principles and approaches of enterprise system design and engineering. In particular, the course introduces service-oriented programming paradigms and architectures that foster integration of distributed applications (Web services platform, REST, Microservices) as well as modern, cloud systems and services (NoSQL stores, cloud benchmarking). Substantial hands-on experience in respective state-of-the art technologies and management approaches enable students to competently apply this knowledge.

Content

The module introduces students to design, implementation, and assessment of non-trivial traditional and modern enterprise IT systems and distributed application architectures. This includes architectural styles and design patterns that are prevalent in Web engineering, as well as Cloud Computing. A major theme of the course will be the evaluation of system qualities, such as performance, scalability, data consistency, security, availability, cost of system operation, and their trade-offs.
