Learning Outcomes

After completing the module, students are able to implement fundamental signal processing algorithms related to cellular and WLAN communication systems in MATLAB ®. They can perform practical implementation work based on technical descriptions in standardization documents. They are able to find appropriate ways to represent and evaluate the results of signal processing operations on real world communication signals. Moreover, they are able to develop and apply strategies for system debugging based on the differences of expected and real signal processing outcome. They are familiar with fundamental architecture elements and operation principles of Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

Wireless transmission experiments are performed on a remote controlled Software Defined Radio (SDR) system. Signal processing algorithms have to be developed, implemented in MATLAB ® and tested as practical work task. Detailed information on the exercise topics as well as theory review are provided prior, during and after the practical work tasks in lecture style.

Requirements for participation and examination

Desirable prerequisites for participation in the courses:

Suitable desired pre-requisites for participation to courses are a basic knowledge of information technology, as described in particular in the courses "Signale und Systeme" and "Nachrichtenubertragung" of the field of study "Elektronik und Informationstechnik" of the BSc degree program. Basic knowledge of programming with MATLAB ® is necessary.

Mandatory requirements for the module test application:

This module has no requirements.

Test description (Module completion)

The final grade according to § 47 (2) AllgStuPO will be calculated according to Notenschlüssel 2 of Faculty IV. Usually, two students working together at one PC as a group. Written reports are elaborated by each group and cover all exercises and experiments of one semester. The reports contain task description, description of the implemented algorithms and the achieved results for each exercise. In oral tests exercise work and background knowledge has to be reported by the participants.

Duration of the Module

The following number of semesters is estimated for taking and completing the module:
2 Semester.

This module may be commenced in the following semesters:
Winter- und Sommersemester.

Maximum Number of Participants

The maximum capacity of students is 12.
