Learning Outcomes

Students possess knowledge of the principles and characteristics of cloud computing at the practical, as well as, the theoretical level. Furthermore they understand critical questions and current solutions in this area.


At the beginning of the module the basics of running a virtualized data center are considered, as viewed from the perspective of a cloud provider. Based on this, subsequently the module covers topics such as programming of scalable and fault-tolerant applications at the different levels of abstractions of the cloud platform from the cloud customer’s view. Both perspectives are also permeated by higher-level aspects like data protection, confidentiality and economic considerations. The contents of the lecture are based on solutions that were recently presented at conferences and in journals. They are complemented by case studies from leading companies from the cloud sector.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

In der integrierten Veranstaltung Cloud Computing wird das vom Dozenten zusammengestellte Wissen im Frontalunterricht vorgestellt, diskutiert und mit Beispielen erläutert. Die Vorlesung findet im wöchentlichen Rhythmus statt. Im Rahmen von integrierten Übungen werden praktische Aufgaben gestellt, die unter Anleitung von Studenten zu lösen sind. Bei geringer Teilnehmerzahl kann die Veranstaltung auch mündlich geprüft werden.

Desirable prerequisites for participation in the courses:

Übungsaufgaben Cloud Computing Inhaltlich werden Kenntnisse des Moduls „Distributed Systems“ vorausgesetzt, sowie solide Programmiererfahrungen in der Programmiersprache Java.
