Project Ethical and Social Challenges of Emerging Technologies: Automation, Robotics, AI

In this project-based seminar, we critically discuss key aspects of the ethical debates around robotics and artificial intelligence. Thematically, the focus this semester is on developments in the healthcare and medical sectors. In addition to reflecting critically on emerging technologies and their ethical-social consequences, we explore possibilities of intervening in ongoing processes. Guest lectures illustrate applications of technologies from relevant focus areas. The seminar includes an introduction to interdisciplinary methods of technology assessment and responsible technology design. In interdisciplinary groups, students develop well-founded proposals for the responsible design of a chosen technology. Appropriate methods are developed in joint workshops focusing on topics of systems thinking and framework analysis, value assessment and critical design thinking.
