A project-course (as part of the X-Student Research Groups) at the Institute of architecture, Technische Universität Berlin
Description:
The construction sector requires fundamental change because its ecological footprint has devastating effects on our environment. For example, in Germany the construction industry accounts for 52% of the total waste produced. To address these impacts, the central question for this course is how to keep materials in the value chain by (re)considering the entire life cycle of a building. We focus on Circular Construction, a climate-conscious paradigm in architecture with an emphasis on bio-based materials, reversible design and construction methods, innovative collaboration strategies, and low resource consumption. The students will analyse one building as a case study (drawings, pictures, LCA calculations, text, and models), will organise an exhibition (taking place in June), and will contribute to a publication. The project is open to students with visual design, technical, or social science backgrounds and an interest in conceptual drawing, construction materials or Circular Economy.
