The course aims to explore the historical context of electroacoustic music from its very roots to
the current day. With the chronological order, the techniques that are used in the compositions
will be analyzed and applied with the current technology. Participants will have short
compositional assignments that are reflecting their own aesthetic. Students who have no musical
background are highly encouraged.

The attention will be drawn on the real time creativity and its background. Different improvisational paths will be examined by doing. Some controllers will be explored. Max/MSP and Ableton will be the main focus, so previous knowledge would be helpful.
The class covers selected topics of spatial sound in music production and performance. Aesthetic viewpoints are provided though examples from the history of electronic and electroacoustic music with hands-on sessions. Participants will learn creative approaches to spatial sound in the audio programming environments SuperCollider, Pure Data and Faust, as well as in traditional DAW scenarios. Wave Field Synthesis, Ambisonics, binaural audio, panning methods and spatial sound synthesis will be explored. Technological aspects also include the handling of professional Linux audio setups to use the systems designed and operated by the TU Studio and installed in the Humboldt Forum Berlin. During the semester, students work on group projects, focusing either on software programming or a musical composition/performance.
