Learning Outcomes

Students acquire knowledge and skills to analyze, assess and manage biotic and abiotic environmental resources in urban areas, including the urban surrounding. They acquire or deepen the competences related to scientific research, writing and presentation. The module provides the theoretical basis for module 1.2 "Environmental Resources in Urban Regions" (Pj), in which aspects of the sustainability of environmental resource use or its further development are dealt with in more detail and in concrete case studies. The module predominatly conveys: expertise 50%, methodological skills 45%, social skills 5%

Content

As part of the module, city-specific aspects of biotic and abiotic environmental resources will be developed based on "History and perspectives of urban regions" (IV) and "Introducing environmental resources in urban regions" (IV) and "Science on environmental resources in urban regions" (IV). The integrated course "Research strategies and methods in environmental sciences"(IV) provides an overview of environmental research methods.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

The english tought module consists of four individual courses, all of which are offered as integrated courses and thus have both lecture and practice character. "History and perspectives of urban regions" provides an introduction to the worldwide history of urbanization and related consequences for ecosystems in a lecture form. The "Introducing environmental resources in urban regions" consists of an lecture part about the environmental resources in urban regions and a presentation of an abstract written by the students. In the english course "Science on environmental resources in urban regions" students actively develop their own scientific questions (potential master thesis topic), conduct research to solve them and present their results in form of a scientific paper and a talk. The course "Research strategies and methods in environmental sciences" builds on an introductory lecture on the scientific methodology in the environmental sciences and on students' seminar contributions (research proposal on own topic, potential master thesis topic and a talk).
