Learning Outcomes

"History of Computer Systems" gives an overview of the origins of computers and computer science. Participants will get a fundamental understanding about the main historical developments that lead to our modern information age. This includes topics from the realms of computation, information management, communication and software. In the seminar the students will also learn important methods like critical reading of original literature, scientific writing and presenting a topic to an audience.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

The participants of this seminar will choose a topic from computer history at the beginning of the semester. During the semester we will have weekly meetings where we then study each topic. Each participant has to prepare and hold a presentation based on original literature which will be provided at the beginning of the semester.

Test description (Module completion)

Each participant of this seminar is expected to read the provided literature and to give a presentation of the chosen topic during the semester. The content of each presentation needs to be handed in as a written report. At the end of the semester we will have a small written test covering the topics of seminar.
