Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module, students will understand the potential of Integrated Collaborative Engineering (ICE) to support integrated civil systems engineering to provide sustainable engineering solutions. To this end, during the module students will be confronted with a design challenge for a complex civil engineered product that they have to solve through intensive collaborative group work. In this way, through completing this hands-on project based module students will have a deep understanding about collaborative engineering design in practical environments. Students will understand the real difficulties in model integration to analyze alternatives for a product from different sustainable angles based on the viewpoints of a large number of different stakeholders. Students will also know about techniques to overcome these problems through collaboration and concurrent work. Finally, students will be able to visualize and communicate complex engineering ideas in detail within media rich interdisciplinary work spaces (the class will be taught within the civil system group's ICE room). Through the intense collaborative team work that is required to finalize the module, students will also get a deep understanding of working in diverse teams in an atmosphere of constructive inclusion and tolerance.
