Learning Outcomes

The course provides an understanding of the functioning and regulation of network industries and infrastructure sectors, such as energy, transport, water, and telecommunication. This includes the application of quantitative and qualitative analyses on the organization of these sectors, in conjunction with case studies.

Content

1) Natural monopoly and monopolistic bottleneck theories in vertical structures 2) Institutional trends for regulation and network competition in Germany, Europe, and the U.S. 3) Price- and cost-based regulation, theory and policy 4) Quantitative productivity and efficiency analysis 5) Case studies

Test description (Module completion)

The portfolio examination consists of the following elements, adding up to a maximum of 100 credits. The grading follows the joint conversion key of the School of Economics and Management (decision of the school's council dated May 28, 2014 - FKR VII-4/8-28.05.2014).
