They know about the state of the art of a particular innovation management process in depth (step 2, see process). … have developed skills in literature analysis and academic writing. They are aware of state-of-the-art skills of a particular innovation management process (step 2, see process). … can discuss critically the applicability of a set of innovation management techniques in the setting of a particular real-life innovation management project (step 3, see process).

Content

First, the students have to identify the state of the art of their major project along the line of the innovation process. Second, the students have to choose one activity that is dominant at the state of the art of their major project among the nine proposed activities. Third, the students have to make a literature analysis concerning the chosen activity. This involves the discussion about current practices against the backdrop of state-of-the art academic discussion on the process step. In addition students discuss to what degree literature can inform their current practice. Moreover students discuss why findings from current literature can or cannot be applied to their innovation project, and what clarifications and modifications on concepts from literature need to be taken into account so that findings from current literature become applicable. And finally third, the students have to write an essay of this activity in the context of the major project.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

The students will be introduced to the process of writing an I&E thesis in seminars or individual supervision. During the process of writing the students will get contact hours for supervision.
