Learning Outcomes

The module enables students to understand the operating principles of logistics connecting the areas of economics, material-flow technology, production technology, transport systems and informatics. They realize the comprehensive approach and the process orientation of logistics and are able to apply the taught methodologies in logistics planning. The students know the tasks, contents and challenges in logistics. The acquired knowledge allows for designing logistics systems in consideration of the design tasks as well as the dependencies and inter-dependencies to other corporate functions. The course aims at preparing students for continuing Master courses in logistics and giving practical expertise for the professional life of Bachelor graduates.

Content

In the course of Fundamentals of Logistics, applied methodologies and instruments for planning and operating logistic processes are presented and the relevance of logistic infrastructure in global logistics systems is discussed. The students get an overview of technologies used for materials handling, transport, warehousing, and picking and packaging and learn methods for the technical design and assessment of logistic systems.
