Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to: - explain current research developments in the field of Software and Business Engineering - apply one or several research methods - write a scientific report according to best practices in the field - give a scientific presentation.

Content

A set of current research and development topics in Software and Business Engineering will be studied. Each student will work on their own small research problem where one or several research methods are applied. The results will be presented in a written report and a scientific presentation. Students will be involved in a peer-review process. Thereby, students can deepen their understanding of research and common scientific practices in general and specific research fields like software engineering for enterprise systems, information system engineering, business engineering, business process management, and blockchain in an enterprise context.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

Lectures on possible own research topics, how to write and present scientific reports, and how to review scientific reports. Regularly 1:1 meetings with a research assistant of the chair to discuss the progress and questions. Intermediate and final presentations of all participants.

Desirable prerequisites for participation in the courses:

Prior knowledge or experience in Software and Business Engineering.

Test description (Module completion)

The final marks will comprise a seminar report and the presentation of its results. Part of the grade will be based on active participation in the discussion phase of the final presentations.

Registration Procedures

This module is meant for BSc students in Information Systems Management (Wirtschaftsinformatik). Registration involves topic selection, where at most one student is assigned for each available topic. Topic selection will be organized through ISIS, and will be based on criteria like suitable skills and motivation to work on a given topic.
