Learning Outcomes

Successful participants of this module have knowledge and practical experiences in modern, distributed and complex IT systems. Through the work in this seminar the participant will gain methodological skills in preparing literature of current research topics, scientific writing and the presentation.

Content

In this seminar we will follow up on these questions in the area of operating complex IT-Systems by consulting selected research papers and recent textbooks including but not limited to current hot topics such as: Cloud Computing, Virtualized Infrastructures, Management of large scale computing clusters, Big Data Analysis and Visualization, Internet of Things, Quality of Service, Software Defined Networks, Fault Tolerance, Checkpointing

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

The module consists of a seminar, in which an individual training in a concrete topic area takes place. Under guidance, scientific work is learned and a professional presentation is created. The seminar starts with the allocation of topics and the supply of initial literature of the individual topic areas. The organizer gives introductions to presentation techniques and scientific writing. This provides skills for creating a specialized presentation and elaboration. The seminar includes a written elaboration and is concluded with an individual presentation, which is provided with feedback regarding content and didactics.

Requirements for participation and examination

Desirable prerequisites for participation in the courses:

Contentwise knowledge of all compulsory modules in the basic studies (1. - 4. Semester) computer science or computer engineering is required.
