Learning Outcomes

The Technology Management module mainly provides specific knowledge in Technology Management, Strategic Foresight and methods and tools of Technology Management. The students will be enabled to effectively apply the methods of Strategic Foresight (e.g. scenario analysis). They are asked to conduct autonomous research on background information and apply it in groups by using the methods learned. Thereby autonomous understanding and application of information is taught.

Content

In the Technology Management lecture primarily the importance of the correct identification and usage of technology for the competitiveness of a corporation or national economy will be explained. Based on these requirements upon Technology Management, the most important tools of Technology Management are introduced and their importance is explained. Here the focus is on Technology Lifecycle analysis, Technology-Trendcurves, Technology-Portfolios, scenario analysis, and road mapping. Another tool is Strategic Foresight where forecasts are made by Technology Roadmaps and scenario analyses to identify trends very early. The different methods will be applied by students on a realistic example including software support.

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

In the lecture, the knowledge of the module provides and discusses current research results. In the integrated exercise for the lecture, a self-selected and software-based scenario is designed and analyzed.

Test description (Module completion)

The portfolio examination consists of the following elements, adding up to a maximum of 100 credits. The grading follows the joint conversion key of the School of Economics and Management (decision of the school's council dated May 28, 2014 - FKR VII-4/8-28.05.2014).
