Learning Outcomes

Students of the production logistics module know the design areas of production logistics processes in theory and practice. The acquired skills allow students to analyze and optimize process and network-oriented production logistics operations.

Content

Contents of Production Logistics I The classes of Production Logistics I start in the summer semester and deal with aspects of internal production logistics. One focus is on the design of the production process, ie, the organizational structure and the practical realization of the type of production. On the basis of applications, different production processes are discussed and analyzed. Another focus is the production planning and control. Methods of pull and push control are presented here. A third aspect is the factory and layout planning and informational support of these topics, These include ERP systems and simulation tools. Content Production Logistics II Production Logistics II is taught in the winter semester. Product development and the issue of process assessment and improvement are covered here. As part of the product and production development, a focus is on the design of the ramp-up management as well as specific approaches towards logistics-adjusted product development. The integration of customer requirements forms the framework for this purpose and will be addressed throughout the lectures. Another focus is on the process assessment and improvement. Based on the strategic direction of the company, measuring and evaluation systems for the collection of production-related business processes are presented. On this basis of specific examples, methods for process optimization, like Poka Yoke, Kaizen and SMED, are presented and discussed. The theoretical learnings of the covered topics of both semesters are complemented with a field trip to a selected manufacturing company.
