Learning Outcomes

Students have in-depth knowledge of the principles and methods of geoinformatics and geographical data including its acquisition, modelling, management, processing, analysis, presentation, and dissemination. They are familiar with data models, data structures, and algorithms used in the domain of geographical information systems and are able to apply them to analytically solve geospatial problems. They understand the concepts of object-oriented programming and are able to implement common spatial data structures and algorithms.

Content

Spatial and geographical data, spatial reference systems, map projections, discrete objects and continuous fields, thematic, geometric, and topological modelling, raster and vector representations, networks, spatial data structures, geographical data analysis, geometrical algorithms, surface and network analysis, topological relations, analytical modelling, object-oriented programming in Python, control flow, (abstract) classes, inheritance, software libraries for geographical information analysis.
