Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

At the beginning of the semester you will receive a set of primary literature, which consists of a basic item for every participant. Then you should find and use secondary sources to research your topic assigned to you in the seminar, which should go beyond the supplied primary literature. Next to conventional sources like the internet you are required to use research journals and articles published at important conferences in the areas of databases and information systems, information management, information modelling and model management. About two weeks after receiving the primary literature, you will have to give a short presentation of about 10 minutes. The presented topic will then be discussed by the seminar group for constructive feedback about the content of your talk. Then, continuously over the term, the participants will give their final talks of about 30 minutes. Finally, a 10-15 pages report describing and evaluating the topic is required by each participant.

Requirements for participation and examination

Desirable prerequisites for participation in the courses:

This course is aimed at master students with a focus on database systems and information management and should be chosen after the 2nd semester. To be able to participate you should have successfully completed ‘Internals of data bases’ IDB and one of the AIM (1,2,3) courses. This seminar can be taken very well by students who are directly in front of their master thesis or have already completed it and are interested in a doctorate in information management.
